KYBELLA® Injections
In San Diego, CA
Submental fullness, or a double chin, can be extremely frustrating, as this condition can be resistant to all the best efforts at reducing it, including diet and exercise.
A double chin may be caused by weight gain, but many patients realize that their submental fullness is due to other causes, such as genetics or the natural aging process. If you have submental fullness and are looking for a permanent, non-surgical solution, KYBELLA® injections can help.
At Capitis Medical & Aesthetics, Dr. Crose and our medical team are committed to improving physical and mental well-being through confidence-boosting treatments such as KYBELLA®.
What Are KYBELLA® Injections?
KYBELLA® is the only FDA-approved treatment to offer a non-surgical approach to reduce the appearance of a double chin. This minimally invasive procedure permanently eliminates submental fat (fatty tissue under the jaw), commonly known as a double chin. The active ingredient in KYBELLA® is synthetic deoxycholic acid, which breaks down fat cells in the treatment area for a long-lasting solution to submental fullness.
What Are the Benefits of KYBELLA® Injections?
KYBELLA® offers a permanent solution to excess fat underneath the chin and jawline without surgery. Submental fat is caused by various reasons apart from weight gain. Many patients have a double chin due to genetics, making diet and exercise ineffective as a solution.
KYBELLA® injections:
- Eliminate fatty deposits underneath the chin and jawline
- Provide the results without the need for surgery
- Have minimal downtime and recovery
- Contour the jawline for a sculpted profile
- Do not require incisions
Can I Combine KYBELLA® with Other Non-surgical Treatments?

Am I a Candidate for KYBELLA®?
Ideal candidates for KYBELLA® are adult men and women who want to contour the jawline for a more assertive profile by eliminating stubborn submental fat. Candidates should also be generally healthy, with good skin elasticity, and not allergic to the active ingredients.

How Are KYBELLA® Treatments Performed?
After your initial consultation, your KYBELLA® treatment can be performed as an in-office procedure. Your KYBELLA® provider may begin the process by marking the treatment area with a pen and then applying a topical anesthetic to prevent discomfort.
Your provider will administer KYBELLA® through injections directly into the treatment area, underneath the chin and jaw. You may receive between 20–30 injections during treatment, but pain is minimal, even tolerable. You may feel as much as a slight pinch. Once completed, your provider may provide you with an ice pack to reduce any swelling.
KYBELLA® treatments are relatively quick, taking only 20–30 minutes per session.
How Much Do KYBELLA® Injections Cost?
The cost of KYBELLA® injections in San Diego, CA, will vary depending on the treatment plan outlined by your provider. Your specific treatment plan is determined by the amount of necessary revision, such as how much submental fullness you are looking to correct and your individual reaction to the treatment. Some patients need more treatments than others. The number of suggested sessions will determine the cost. Your expert KYBELLA® injector will provide an accurate cost estimate once a treatment plan has been developed for you, usually during your consultation.
How Long Is KYBELLA® Injection Recovery?
One of the benefits of KYBELLA® is that it has minimal recovery and downtime, especially when compared to alternative surgical treatments such as liposuction. After your KYBELLA® injection, you may experience slight swelling or redness, which will subside quickly. Most patients can return to normal activities immediately following treatment.
When Will I See the Results of My KYBELLA® Treatments?
After your first KYBELLA® injection, the deoxycholic acid will begin working to eliminate fat cells in the treatment area. However, it may take a few weeks for the treatment to show visible changes. After about one month, you should be able to see improvement in your double chin.
Most KYBELLA® patients will need more than one session for the full results, spaced one month apart, to let the deoxycholic acid work in the body and process the dissolved fat cells.
KYBELLA® Frequently Asked Questions
Do KYBELLA® injections hurt?
No. Many patients choose KYBELLA® over surgical treatments of submental fullness because it is notably more comfortable and less invasive. You will only feel a slight pinch from the needle during your treatment, which is quite tolerable. You can also talk to your provider about using a topical anesthetic before your treatment to eliminate any pain.
How long will my KYBELLA® results last?
Deoxycholic acid permanently destroys fat cells where it is injected. Adults generally do not develop new fat cells, which is why KYBELLA® is considered a permanent solution to submental fullness. However, the surrounding fat cells can get more prominent if you gain weight, so to ensure your jawline stays slim and sculpted, it’s best to maintain a healthy weight with diet and exercise.
How many treatments of KYBELLA® will I need?
The number of necessary KYBELLA® treatments will vary from patient to patient. Most need around 2-3 treatments to see ideal results, but your provider can give you a more accurate assessment during your consultation.
Can I get KYBELLA® injections while pregnant?
KYBELLA® is not FDA-approved for patients who are pregnant or breastfeeding. Be sure to communicate with your provider if you are pregnant or plan to be before starting KYBELLA® treatments.
Does insurance cover KYBELLA® injections?
No. KYBELLA® is considered a cosmetic procedure, so insurance will not cover your injections.
