The benefits of precise skin cooling have long been popular in the aesthetics industry, from Cryotherapy facials to simple, at-home icing to reduce redness and swelling.

Cool temperatures can also minimize pores, constrict blood vessels to reduce discoloration, and slow processes that cause common skin concerns. Glacial® Rx is the first and only non-surgical device that utilizes Cryomodulation™ to heal, soothe, and brighten the skin for a radiant complexion–with no pain, downtime, or recovery.

Capitis’ Master of Regenerative Aesthetics, Ari Crose, F.N.P., is our expert aesthetic provider and Glacial® Rx technician. With a unique understanding of the benefits of inducing the skin’s healing capabilities, Ari is excited to bring this new treatment to our patients who suffer from inflammation, rosacea, melasma, and more.

What Is Glacial® Rx?

A non-invasive treatment that uses Cryomodulation™, Glacial® Rx can improve a variety of skin concerns, including redness, inflammation, and benign lesions.

Cryomodulation™ is a precision cooling technology used within a Glacial® Rx treatment. By using controlled cooling, this treatment can reduce inflammation, accelerate exfoliation, and balance melanin in the skin for a brighter, more even complexion. With three modalities, Glacial® Rx is not only a safe and effective non-surgical treatment, but it offers highly customizable treatments with no recovery or downtime, making this a versatile treatment for all skin types.

What Are the Benefits of Glacial® Rx?

As a pain-free, gentle skin treatment, Glacial® Rx is applicable to more patients than other comparable treatments. The three treatment options, cooling with dermabrasion, continuous cooling, and precision freezing, allow our providers to customize Glacial® Rx treatments to best suit the needs of our patients. Other benefits of Glacial® Rx include:

  • Non-invasive
  • Pain-free, comfortable treatments
  • No downtime or recovery
  • Flexible treatment options, including combining Glacial® Rx with other non-surgical procedures
  • Visible results in as little as one treatment session

Can I Combine Glacial® Rx with Other Non-surgical Treatments?

One of the primary functions of Glacial® Rx is to soothe and cool the skin after sun damage and heat trauma, including pain or discomfort following heat or light-based therapies. By design, Glacial® Rx is a wonderful addition to most in-office treatments offered at Capitis Medical & Aesthetics and can be performed immediately after certain procedures to help induce a quicker recovery.

Tetra CO2 CoolPeel® Laser

Laser resurfacing treatments, like the Tetra CO2, offer substantial anti-aging results without the need for surgery. This skin resurfacing treatment can reduce fine lines and wrinkles, erase sun damage, tighten loose skin, and reveal youthful, glowing skin. While the cooling effects of the laser greatly reduce recovery time, a few passes of the Glacial® Rx right after your laser treatment will drastically reduce redness, irritation, and discomfort.

Morpheus8™ and Morpheus8™ Body

The powerful RF microneedling treatment Morpheus8™ provides some of the most stunning skin tightening and collagen-inducing results of non-surgical treatments on the market today, and it is easily combined with Glacial® Rx to quickly soothe and heal any discomfort or irritation after the procedure. You can even pair Glacial® Rx with Morpheus8™ Body, as the cooling skin treatment is perfect for use anywhere in the body.

Am I a Candidate for Glacial® Rx?

By its nature, Glacial® Rx is a precise and gentle skin treatment that does not use any modalities known to cause damage to the skin, such as light, heat, or laser therapies, making it widely applicable for a variety of skin conditions, types, and concerns.

When used for spot treatment of specific skin irregularities, it is safe enough even for pregnant and breastfeeding women. Candidates for Glacial® Rx may be experiencing the following skin concerns:

  • Rosacea
  • Melasma
  • Dyschromia (patchy discoloration of the skin)
  • Sunspots
  • Dull skin
  • Skin laxity
  • Uneven tone
  • Acute sunburn

Using precise cooling technology to soothe inflammation of damaged or irritated tissues, Glacial® Rx can also be used to “spot treat” specific areas, or it can be applied all over a treatment area for consistent skin-soothing benefits.

How Are Glacial® Rx Treatments Performed?

Your Glacial® Rx treatment will be customized to your specific needs and goals. Additionally, Glacial® Rx can incorporate one or more of the following three modalities:

Cooling Followed by Dermabrasion: This treatment provides continuous cooling and gentle dermabrasion to reduce inflammation, brighten skin, and promote exfoliation.

Continuous Cooling: This option can be performed after the first method, or it can follow another in-office treatment. With continuous cooling, your skin is soothed and brightened almost immediately, providing instant relief.

Precision Freezing: This precise “spot treatment” function is best for targeting benign lesions such as sun spots or patchy discoloration. Precise freezing quickly and gently targets skin lesions, which then heal and slough off after recovery, revealing smooth, even skin.

In any case, Glacial® Rx treatments are comfortable, even relaxing. There is no need for topical anesthetics, as the treatment does not cause pain. Preparation is also minimal, as only retinoid products need to be avoided for a few days prior to your Glacial® Rx session.

How Much Do Glacial® Rx Treatments Cost?

Since Glacial® Rx treatments are all very unique, some combined with other treatments, some performed alone, a consultation with Ari at Capitis Aesthetics is necessary to determine the cost. Once you have a customized treatment plan created for you, we will be happy to provide you with an accurate cost estimate.

How Long Is Glacial® Rx Recovery?

Glacial® Rx treatments are designed to aid in the recovery process of other treatments and, when performed alone, do not have any related downtime or recovery.

Only the Precision Freezing modality requires some aftercare, as the targeted lesions will become rough and eventually peel off. This process can take up to two weeks, during which you will need to protect your skin from sun exposure and avoid harsh skin treatments and topicals.

When Will I See the Results of Glacial® Rx Treatments?

Depending on your skin concerns, the level of necessary revision, and the specifics of your treatment plan, you may be able to see an immediate improvement in your skin after your first Glacial® Rx treatment. However, most patients will see the best results from their Glacial® Rx treatments in the following three months.

Glacial® Rx Frequently Asked Questions

How many Glacial® Rx treatments will I need for ideal results?

The number of treatments needed for your ideal results depends on your needs. Some patients with melasma or certain types of hyperpigmentation experience flare-ups when it is hot outside or they have been in the sun. In these cases, it’s best to undergo Glacial® Rx treatments as needed.

Other patients with more continuous skin concerns, like rosacea, may benefit from a once-monthly session to help reduce inflammation and redness. Patients with a specific concern, like reducing the appearance of sun damage, may need between two and three sessions to see ideal results.

Are there any side effects with Glacial® Rx?

In clinical trials, there were only mild side effects such as redness, micro-crusting, and transient darkening, which all cleared up on their own.

In over 600 clinical trials, there have been no device-related serious adverse effects, making Glacial® Rx a safe and effective treatment.
