What Is FUE Hair Transplantation?
Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) hair transplantation is the modern alternative to more traditional, invasive hair restoration treatments. Unlike the FUT, or strip method, which involves surgically removing a strip of the scalp from the donor site for follicular transfer, FUE hair transplantation requires only the removal of individual follicles for transplantation. This means minimal pain, no scarring, and less recovery time—with ideal results.
What Are the Benefits of FUE Hair Transplantation?
Hair transplant technology has evolved to bring patients reliable relief from hair loss and thinning hair. If you are ready to take control over your hair loss, FUE hair transplantation performed by hair restoration specialist Dr. Crose can help achieve notable results.
- Minimal scarring
- No downtime
- Less invasive process
- Painless procedure
- Customized treatment
- Permanent results
Can I Combine FUE Hair Transplantation with Other Hair Restoration Treatments?
At Capitis Medical & Aesthetics, we strive to provide our hair restoration patients with various treatments to help with hair loss at every stage. Dr. Crose can create a custom plan incorporating other hair restoration treatments with your FUE procedure to help you see the impressive results you deserve.
Oral Medications and Supplements
If you are interested in non-surgical options to use in conjunction with your FUE procedure, Dr. Crose can create a treatment plan that incorporates the ideal combination for your needs. Popular medications used for hair restoration, such as minoxidil, have evolved over the years, improving in efficacy and producing fewer side effects. Additionally, we offer Nutrafol herbal supplements to counter any stress-induced hair loss.
Low-Level Light Therapy
When administered precisely by a hair restoration expert such as Dr. Crose, low-level light therapy has been proven to increase the rate at which hair grows. Depending on your specific needs and goals, Dr. Crose can advise you on the benefits of this additional treatment.
PRP and Stem Cell Exosome Injections
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and stem cell exosomes are revolutionizing the hair restoration industry as the beneficial properties of regenerative medicine become more established. Dr. Crose can implement either of these excellent treatments along with your FUE procedure to encourage cell regeneration and heal your skin and scalp from the inside out.
Am I a Candidate for FUE Hair Transplantation?
Candidates for FUE hair transplantation are men and women experiencing hair loss and thinning hair. Additionally, candidates must have enough viable, healthy hair in another location on the head to be harvested for transplantation. Due to the need for viable donor hair, starting treatment as soon as possible is best.
What Is the FUE Hair Transplantation Procedure?
On the day of surgery, Dr. Crose will draw the hairline on the target location to the patient’s satisfaction. The hair on the donor site will be trimmed in order to ensure precise extraction.
A local anesthetic will be injected at the donor site or the treatment area, whichever is being worked on first. This ensures the patient’s optimum comfort during the procedure.
The hair follicles will be extracted from the donation location before they are cleaned and prepared for insertion in the treatment area. Dr. Crose will also create new hair follicle sites in the treatment area, maintaining a natural pattern that mimics the patient’s hair growth.
Once the treatment area and donor site have been prepared, the hair follicles are transplanted into the pre-created sites. This is done with meticulous care, ensuring they match the patient’s natural hair angle, orientation, and patterns.
The entire process can take anywhere from 8-12 hours, with Capitis Medical & Aesthetics providing a lunch break for the patient in between.

How Much Does FUE Hair Transplantation Cost?
The cost of FUE hair transplantation will vary widely depending on the revision level necessary. This will also determine the length of the specific procedure.
It is important to only entrust your FUE hair restoration procedure to a licensed medical professional, as this is a surgical procedure that can only legally be performed by a physician, nurse practitioner, or physician’s assistant. Unlike other physicians, Dr. Crose performs both the hair extraction and follicular site preparation himself and oversees the follicle insertion to ensure the highest standards of safety and optimum results.
How Long Is FUE Hair Transplantation Recovery?
After FUE hair transplantation, your treatment area will be covered with a bandage, and you will be sent home with some medications to aid recovery. Dr. Crose will also schedule a follow-up appointment to assess your progress within the first four days after the procedure.
You may have some scalp soreness in the first few days after the procedure, but this is usually managed by over-the-counter pain medication. You should be able to return to work within one day after treatment with little discomfort. The donor site should fully heal within three days, while the treatment site can take three to seven days.
When Will I See the Results of FUE Hair Transplantation?
Generally, patients can start seeing FUE results gradually over six months, with full results visible within nine months to a year. After your FUE hair transplantation, your hair will continue to grow naturally for a permanent solution to hair loss.
FUE Hair Transplantation Frequently Asked Questions
Is the FUE hair transplantation method painful?
The FUE method is unlike the older strip method. There is almost no pain or recovery discomfort. Dr. Crose will monitor your local anesthetic in both locations of the procedure (the donor and recipient sites) to ensure a pain-free experience during your surgery.
Do I have to shave my head before treatment?
Only the donor site needs to be trimmed (1.2-1.5 mm) to ensure the viability of the harvested hair follicles. The size of your donor site will depend on the number of grafts necessary for revision, as well as the relative quality of donor hair.
Men may either buzz their entire head so that the donor site can grow in with the rest of the hair, or they may choose to grow out their hair longer to hide the donor site as it regrows.
Women typically can hide the donor site easily with longer hair.
What if my FUE transplant does not work?
There are a few reasons why a FUE transplant may fail, including improper grafting techniques, post-surgical infection, and hair transplant graft rejection. In order to minimize these risks, it’s vital that you choose the best physician for your FUE procedure. Dr. Crose has performed this transplant technique for years with great success, ensuring a high level of safety and precision.
All of Dr. Crose’s patients are sent home with sufficient medication and aftercare instructions to reduce the risk of infection as much as possible.
The initial consultation process is crucial in determining your candidacy and the success of the process. You will be assessed to determine if you have a healthy enough hair donor site and scalp for transplantation. Evaluating all these factors, Dr. Crose will do his best to inform you of exactly how FUE hair transplantation will benefit you so that you can feel confident in your decision.
